When a Child Is Stolen

Our Causes

Child trafficking in Cameroon exploits vulnerable children through forced labor, sexual exploitation, and illegal adoption. Joyous Charity and partner safe havens provide trauma-informed rescue, protection services, psychological counseling, legal advocacy, and long-term rehabilitation to help child victims heal, rebuild trust, and reclaim their childhoods.

It was just after dawn when we first held him. Two weeks old. Wrapped in a threadbare cloth. No name yet. No family to call his own. Only the faint, trembling rhythm of a heartbeat that had already survived more than any infant should.

At Joyous Charity, moments like this stay with us. Not as statistics. Not as case files. But as sacred reminders of why we do this work.

This child, like thousands of others across Cameroon, was caught in the cruel machinery of child trafficking in Cameroon. His parents were gone. His future is uncertain. But in that quiet room, with caregivers trained in trauma care for trafficked children, something began to shift. Fear softened. Trust, slowly, took root.

His story is not unique. But it is hopeful. Because at Joyous Charity, we believe every child deserves more than survival. They deserve to thrive.

The Hidden Crisis: Understanding Child Trafficking in Cameroon Today

Cameroon sits at a painful crossroads. Rich in culture, resilience, and community spirit yet strained by poverty, displacement, and gaps in child protection services Cameroon.

According to the U.S. Department of State’s 2025 Trafficking in Persons Report, Cameroon remains a source, transit, and destination country for child trafficking

Children are pulled from rural villages, IDP camps, and urban slums promised education, opportunity, or safety only to face exploitation that steals their childhood.
